Did you happen to see I’ve scanned pumpkins with a couple different scanners in other videos? You want something that’s geared toward bigger objects than this one. For your standard jack o lantern sized pumpkin, I’d say look at the Revopoint Pop series, or Miraco if you want to go more deluxe. 3DMakerPro makes a couple that I’ve shown here that would also be suitable, like the Moose and Mole.

@@jasperjanderson I've seen other ways such as wrapping a person with cling film then with packing tape... or the chicken wire form... they look cool too... but I think this is different because it comes from a model that is 3D printed and vacuum formed.

@@jasperjanderson and what I also appreciate is showing how to use it in a real world scenario. I'm aware of the infrared nature of this device and it will ONLY be used inside. I'll have to resort to photogrammetry for anything outdoors

@@KRGraphicsCG theoretically is should be useable outside, but it seems that if it’s too bright, it is a problem

@@jasperjanderson I'll have to figure out a way to be able to scan outdoors, aside from lowering the exposure or scan on an overcast day. Infrared is best at night

Maybe so. I would think since both ports are USB that you could probably use a standard USB battery power supply, though. Worth testing to see... although I guess you'd still need to carry a laptop to run the program.

It's never happened to me before, so I'm not stressing about it. Normally my attitude is to fix a problem before anyone notices, but it happened that the problem made the scanning more relevant!

Sorry, I just automatically scan without textures most of the time because I'm usually scanning monotone sculptures. If you're happy with the results you're getting with your current setup, no need to change it.

Is there a video that shows method and software used for using photogrammetry on small objects? I generate point clouds of the ground but would like to model small stuff like old motorcycle parts that are very hard to find. Thank you!!

I haven’t used the machine in months, so I don’t really remember. I recommend joining the Facebook group. It will be much easier to get troubleshooting help there.

I do have a kit that is similar to this, and several videos covering it

I'm not really familiar with those, but you can see the results I got on the cape parts here. I'm still dialing in the settings for the smoothest results that preserve the best detail. In my experience, no 3D scan will be ready to output, so you'll always have to do some cleanup work.

@@jasperjanderson i dont mind the clean up :) its just my pervious scanner could do a great job on the front and back of said armor overall size is 3-4 inch BUT has a 2mm wall thickness as soon as it hit the sides NOPE the scan explodes and looses tracking and f@cks up these armor are barely thicker than a steak knife

Try some surrounding objects to give it more to track on the sides. That’s what I’m doing with the blobs of clay here

Sorry for the late reply. For some reason I haven’t been getting notifications for comments. Yes, if the globe is clean and clear, the projection will pass right through the acrylic.

Haha! I wouldn’t recommend paper towels and plaster of Paris for this. Of the versions I’ve tried, the mask with a newspaper paper mache under layer is my favorite, and very easy to do.

I’m not sure what you’re describing. These are Gypsona plaster bandages, but you can usually find something similar at the craft store. It sounds like your plaster bandages might not have been cured yet. The paper towels are generic brand from Target, I think. Good luck! Send a pic of your finished mask on Insta/fb/email

Well, as I mentioned, I’ve used different base layers on each of the ones I’ve made. This one was plaster bandage, another was traditional newspaper and paste mache, another was all paint and paper towels. I did one recently on a 3D printed base shell. So whatever works!

There is a learning curve to getting consistent results. I've been using these scanners for a couple years, so I have gotten a head start. Also keep in mind that some things are harder to scan than others based on color, geometry, and ambient light. You might practice on a known scannable object to get your bearings.

Yeah don't believe all the influencer hype on these. I've got a POP3 and while it can do some stuff, most RUclips videos make it look way more competent than it actually is.
